November 2004 Welcome to my first newsletter of 2004. It may well be the last one until I get back to town, and my beloved DSL. I’ve become very attached to my computer, and rarely leave the house anymore, except to get more food and beer, and go to the gig. Which, after all, is the point of this newsletter. I’m having a fab time playing with all sorts of new and different pickers, as well as spending many hours writing and getting ready to record my first "solo" CD. I’ve been in the biz for over 30 years now, and finally feel qualified. I also now have a new home in the vapors…. www.chojo.net. Please stop by and take a gander. Of course if you’re reading this on my newsletter page, then you already know that, so thanks for stopping by! Some recent activities have included some gigs with the fabulous Ken Clarkson on banjo. I took a break from banjos for several decades, but now feel ready again. Ken makes it easy by being such a damn good musician, as well as the first G-man I’ve gigged with. I’ve had a great time with David Jacobs-Strain www.DavidJacobs-Strain.com, and hope to do more down the road with this fine fine player. I met Rick Shea at the Canmore Folk Festival last summer, and we hit it off big time, and decided to do some gigs together. He came up to Henfling’s and we had a great time, and are headed to Canada together next fall. I’ve been spending some time playing with Houston Jones www.houstonjones.com , and have been asked to help produce their next CD, another exciting first for me. They are one fine outfit, and I encourage you to go see them sooner than later! I’m headed off to Texas for a few weeks and will be down there playing some gigs with some very fine folks. I've also heard that there are songwriters in Austin, and I plan to hang out at 24th and Guadalupe until I run into one. I really need some advice, ‘cause I keep writing the same song over and over. Different chicks, but the same song. More importantly, I’m going on a BBQ quest and will be loading up my suitcases with brisket and goat hams to bring back and nauseate my PETA pals here at home. Dubya Dubya II has invited me out to Crawford to discuss things, and I’ll let him know how you feel. Then after I get out of prison, you’ll get a full report. But at least I’ll get to see my mom. Speaking of mom, she has a new gun, and evidently it works great. There are no more skunks, possums, or raccoons in the county, and the guy that reads the electric meter hasn’t showed up for months. Have a great fall, and I hope to see you at a show soon! |
